Knights Ferry The Longest Covered Bridge West of the Mississippi. At 330 ft., The covered bridge in Knights Ferry is the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi. Rumor has it that the bridge is haunted. The story goes that a young man was hanged on the bridge. His lover, heart broken, has been walking the bridge searching for her love. Directions: The covered bridge crosses the Stanislaus River. The Stanislaus River was named after Chief Stanislaus whom was killed in a meadow near the bridge. Additionally, there is an Indian burial site within close proximity to the bridge plus the area was the site of two Civil Wars.
