Knights Ferry

The Longest Covered Bridge West of the Mississippi.

At 330 ft., The covered bridge in Knights Ferry is the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi.

Rumor has it that the bridge is haunted.  The story goes that a young man was hanged on the bridge.  His lover, heart broken, has been walking the bridge searching for her love.

Directions:
From Highway 99, head East on Highway 120 to Knights Ferry (about 30 miles). Turn Left onto Kennedy Road then Left onto Sonora Road.

The covered bridge crosses the Stanislaus River.  The Stanislaus River was named after Chief Stanislaus whom was killed in a meadow near the bridge.  Additionally, there is an Indian burial site within close proximity to the bridge plus the area was the site of two Civil Wars.

La Grange

La Grange probably has more historic buildings per capita than any place I have ever been.

Directions:
From Highway 99, head East on Highway 132 to La Grange.

Modesto

Built during the Great Depression of the 1930s, it contains a series of historic murals in its lobby, depicting Modesto's agricultural life.
